What MacGames does for it.

Age of Mythology: Retold (AoM Retold) is a Windows game. MacGames brings the parts it needs to run on a Mac, and sets them up for you.

DirectX through Metal
Apple's D3DMetal turns the game's DirectX calls into Metal.
GPU entries that match
The game checks its graphics card in registry keys that Wine fills in. A small helper makes those keys match the GPU that D3DMetal reports.
Fullscreen below the notch
On a MacBook with a notch, the game's fullscreen sits below the notch, so no part of the game is hidden.
One Steam for your games
The game installs into the shared Steam library, so you sign in to Steam once for all your games.
